Assignment of Students to Schools Policy

The Wicomico County Board of Education (WCBOE) believes in even and equitable access to educational resources for all students throughout Wicomico County. To this end, WCBOE will ensure the balanced use of available school facilities by assigning students to a school by their residence within a specific geographic area. The student's residence will be determined by the legal residence of the custodial parent(s) or legal guardian(s). This geographic area is hereinafter referred to as the Attendance Area . Such attendance areas may be reviewed and realigned from time to time by WCBOE according to school facility capacities and/or increase or decrease in population within such attendance areas. Exceptions may be granted by the Superintendent of Schools or designee according to the provisions established in INS-SCH-PR-008, Special Permission to Attend School Outside of the Attendance Area Procedure. WCBOE instructs the Superintendent of Schools to create procedures to implement this policy.
