c) Compulsory Attendance Considerations: Increased age of compulsory attendance to age 18 for school year 2018/2019 and beyond as stipulated by legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly in 2012 (SB362). d) Adjustments for attendance due to Covid-19: School enrollments were lower in 2020 due to Covid-19, the projections were adjusted taking into account the lower school attendance. We are reviewing 2020 preliminary birth data to check if there were lower births during the pandemic; we will adjust our birth projections accordingly and this might lead to lower school enrollment projections in the future years. We also reviewed several sources that stated there will be lower births in 2020 due to the pandemic and we would be happy to share these sources.

The Maryland Department of Planning recognizes MSDE K-12 September 2020 enrollment figures as the official enrollment for 2020. We are providing this information electronically to you and your Education Facilities Planner as an aid in your school enrollment planning processes. Projections used in your Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP) must be within five percent of those generated by our Department. Please send your school system's official written response to Planning’s projection. Your reply must include a copy of your enrollment projections. If the difference between your projections and Planning’s is greater than five percent, we will schedule a meeting with you to discuss the differences so that we can agree on the projections to be used in the Educational Facilities Master Plan.
